A DANCE OF CONTRAST.

They say your life flashes before your eyes as you die. What would flash before yours? Taylah Bons in her Graduation Film tackles the subject of racial barriers and the commitments of love in our life, that can be carried even to our death bed.

In this reimagined form of ‘Romeo and Juliet’, these star-crossed lovers are not separated by family, but by the skin. Placing the world in a monotone spectrum symbolically represents both the issues of the time in black and white and the reinforcement of the skin tones that metaphorically messages to the audience the two are codependent for one another.

The production design was versatile and keeping to the time period. The costumes in particular formed as much of the character as the actors themselves, In which compliments their characters well and their place in the story; Yarran, a poor yet simple man who wears simple white working shirts, and Nancy, a beautiful flower In a garden, who carries it everywhere with her dresses.

Dear Nancy was shot at Taylah’s hometown of Rushworth in Victoria, Australia. The support of the community gave Taylah resources and motivation to develop a story she wanted to tell to all that lend their eyes and ears.

The talent of Scarlett Clemens and Nilson David creates a wonderful relationship and connection in just a short time. These professional actors were not only stellar in their performance but their attitude was warm and welcoming from the beginning

Even happy endings never really are happy endings. All for nothing. twisted way of saying never takes things for granted.

“Back in 2019, a friend of mine recommended that I watch Roman Polanski’s 1975 film, ‘Chinatown’. I have to admit, up until that point, I had no interest in period pieces, nor had any form of respect for them. ‘Chinatown’ changed that. I fell in love with the style of film Noir and the way they tell their stories. I soon after began forming this story, and quite quickly fell in love with the characters and the world they belonged to. It was only a matter of time before I felt an obligation as a creator to give them life. “
