The modern relationship in today’s time is proven to be a much thinner line to walk along now more than ever. Ideal partners or spouses are expectations that never come to fruition, and almost every second marriage recorded fizzles into something empty and hollow. But has been the most shameful rise in relationships is the abuse and harassment found; And this is where Jarrek Montenegro’s 2022 Short Film ‘Eleven Fifty-Nine’ harnesses.
Diving into an already crumbling relationship with passionate insults and strawman arguments, this pair through all the red flags still depends on one another, casting a shadow so the other cannot grow. Stuck in time rather than moving forward.
Montenegro wanted to portray this toxic relationship through the concept of the looming horror of drug dependency. Both are horribly to leave yourself with, and worse to perpetually ignore as a problem.
“Eleven Fifty Nine has been a project I was passionate about since it was written back in 2017 and over the next few years, my connection with the characters grew more. I aimed to explore the bad side of relationships and the most extreme consequences of these situations. Ash and Jake both have their reasons for fighting each other but ultimately when someone is a monster in your eyes, it is hard to see them any other way.”
