“Whilst based around the 2020 bush fires experienced all over the country, Horizonal aims to explore the incoming threat of fire and the anxiety, stress and preparation that accompanies a state of emergency. Explored through the three characters, isolated to their plot of land, Max and Belle are often ignorant to their dad’s anxiety which is exacerbated from the threat of his family home burning down alongside the safety of his kids. When writing the story, I wanted to create a separation between Max and his father which, over time would begin to heal and only as things get better, do they soon get so much worse..”
